When Emergency Care Becomes Everything
Why Rehabilitation Cannot Wait
In conflict zones, healthcare systems collapse into a single mode: emergency. When hospitals face constant bombardment and medical supplies dwindle, every resource goes toward keeping people alive today. But what happens to those who survive their injuries? What happens when a child loses a limb but there is nowhere to get a prosthetic? What happens when trauma survivors need psychological support but mental health services no longer exist?
This is the gap Beyond Motion Hub was created to fill.
In Gaza, the scale of need is staggering. Research from Humanity & Inclusion reveals that ten children per day are losing limbs, with over 21,000 children sustaining war-related injuries. The territory's only dedicated rehabilitation and prosthetics center has been destroyed. WHO reports that less than a dozen of Gaza's 36 hospitals remain operational, and those that function are overwhelmed with emergency cases. Rehabilitation services have been severely limited, with healthcare workers lacking resources to treat surgical cases - leading to higher rates of disability and death.
The demand for specialized care has exploded. Conflict has triggered what WHO describes as an "exponential increase" in the need for health workers in ophthalmology, orthopedics, reconstructive surgery, rehabilitation, physiotherapy, burn care, and mental health services. An estimated 42,000 people in Gaza will need prolonged rehabilitation care due to war-related trauma and amputations. Meanwhile, at least 485,000 people with mental health needs continue to experience disruptions to treatment.
Beyond Motion Hub provides what healthcare systems in crisis cannot: comprehensive rehabilitation that treats the whole person - body and soul. We deliver 3D-printed prosthetics and orthotics when limb reconstruction centers lie in rubble. We provide physiotherapy to help people regain mobility and prevent permanent impairment. We offer psychosocial support because surviving physical trauma is only part of the healing journey.
We show up when systems break. We work within existing healthcare infrastructure - partnering with local hospitals, medical tents, and clinics - to rebuild rehabilitation capacity rather than replace it. Our telehealth platforms supplement in-person care when personnel and resources are stretched thin, ensuring that even in the most challenging circumstances, people have access to the care they need.
The children making crutches from tree branches. The adults living with amputations without prosthetics. The healthcare workers struggling with PTSD as they work in impossible conditions. These are the people Beyond Motion Hub serves.
Because when emergency care becomes everything, rehabilitation care becomes nothing. And that gap costs lives, mobility, dignity, and hope. We exist to close it.
